From the Director

We are pleased to announce that the JRI has moved to St. Vincent Medical Center (SVMC), Los Angeles. The new 9,000 sq. ft. facility for the Joint Replacement Institute is complete with a move completed in January 2008. SVMC will also provide core financing for the continuation of our research and education in the field of arthroplasty. This move enables the Institute to achieve maximum growth and provide expanded care facilities. We have put together an outstanding team over the past four months to assist us in the operating room, which is running like a finely tuned machine. Dr. Michael Mynatt, an experienced joint replacement surgeon who formerly headed the Arthritis service at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, has joined our staff.

The Joint Replacement Institute at St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles is a world leader in hip and knee joint replacement and offers hip resurfacing, a minimally invasive hip replacement procedure for younger, more active adults that conserves maximum bone.

Thomas P. Schmalzried, M.D., Associate Director of the Joint Replacement Institute at St. Vincent Medical Center, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the adult hip and knee, with a focus on total joint replacement. The author of over one hundred scientific manuscripts, he is a three-time recipient of the John Charnley Award for pioneering research in joint arthroplasty. Schmalzried is on the editorial review board of several scientific journals and is the Joint Replacement Section Editor for Orthopedics Today, the most widely read orthopaedic periodical.
